LOWVILLE, New York (WWNY) - The results of the race for Lewis County District Attorney have been finalized and Republican Jeffery Tompkins is the winner.

Incumbent Democrat Leanne Moser congratulated Tompkins after learning the results.

The final vote count was 3,032 to 2,973.

Tompkins has served as Lewis County’s conflict defender for the last five years. An attorney with the McClusky Law Firm, Tompkins currently lives in Oneida County and plans to move to Lewis County now that he has been elected as DA.

Moser, who was running for her fifth 4-year term, released the following statement:

“Having received final confirmation of the numbers I have reached out to Mr. Tompkins to congratulate him and welcome him and his family to Lewis County as they move here to begin what I believe to be the greatest honor of anyone’s career, which is to serve as their communities’ county prosecutor.

“On a very personal note, I want to take this moment to thank Lewis County for having allowed me to serve as your District Attorney and Coroner for the past 16 years. There has been no greater privilege in my life than to have achieved the accomplishment of being District Attorney in the community I was raised in, surrounded by family, friends and colleagues who worked together to provide justice and safety in a fair and unbiased manner.

“I cannot begin to mention all those I wish to thank and appreciate for everything you have given me and the support you have shown me. I will miss my close working relationship with the men and women of our law enforcement agencies whose individual ethics and accomplishments within their field helped make my experience even more rewarding and challenged me to continually seek to be a better prosecutor.

“Most importantly I wish to thank my office family for the past 16 years. I have worked with the most incredible individuals who have given me their friendship, hard-work and years of service. It has been my greatest honor to work with each person. I am excited for their futures and excited to see where each of them has pursued their careers throughout the years. I am so thankful for every person who has ever blessed me with their talent and skill.

“Lastly, I would not have been in this position without the love and support and tireless effort of family and friends who have been beside me every step of the way for the last 16 years. It is with your love and support that I have been the District Attorney in Lewis County. You have believed in me, walked with me, sometimes chased away the dogs, and accepted when I could not be there for you because work took me away. To you I extend my deepest gratitude for being the foundation that has allowed me to have served as District Attorney. I have been blessed and am truly grateful at this most thankful of seasons.

“May the Blessings of this Thanksgiving be upon everyone as they have been upon me for the past 16 years.”
