Mel Busler

Sports Anchor
WWNY
Mel Busler

I started my broadcast career at WATN radio in 1978. I moved over to 7News in 1982, becoming full time Sports Anchor of the 6 and 11 news in 1984.

I have had the pleasure of covering North Country sports for over 27 years here at 7News. I was lucky enough to find a career I enjoy and to find that career in my hometown of Watertown.

I take my responsibilities here at 7News seriously, but as you can tell, I try to have fun doing it.

I'm not sure if I should brag about my one major contribution to society, but Busler's Beauties has certainly been my calling card.

Plus I'm proud of the Athlete of the Week segment, which puts the spotlight on area athletes.

Being from the area, working at 7News has given me the opportunity to work with some great charities over the years, Disabled Persons Action Organization, Meals on Wheels, American Cancer Society and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Add to that the bad exhibition of basketball and softball I have spread over the years to area benefits through the No Stars, you can see why I enjoy my job and what it has brought.

I have been lucky enough to win awards from the New York State Broadcasters Association, Associated Press and the Syracuse Press Club. But what I'm most proud of is the family I'm a part of. My wife Rose and sons Mel and Matt is what it's all about.

Thank you for letting me into your homes and I hope to continue that visit for many years to come.
