FORT DRUM, New York (WWNY) - With much of the 10th Mountain Division currently deployed, a group of military spouses is coming together to try and help those soldiers’ families with snow removal here at home.

The group is looking for volunteers to help shoveling snow. They say there are already more than 50 families signed up, hoping for some help.

The efforts are part of Project Evergreen. A nationwide non-profit which also helps military families year-round, mowing lawns in the summer, and shoveling snow come winter.

“We have a lot of brand new spouses to Fort Drum, brand new spouses to the army. Most of these are from the south. A lot of them are very young, have babies, are pregnant, young kids, and their number one concern on these surveys was snow removal,” said Laura Wence, a military spouse.

The group says they are looking for either individual volunteers, or from snow removal businesses.
